About the Workshop
This session is ideal for people who are seeking to improve organisation results or benefits from projects. In this session we will:
• explore how driving benefits varies based on the initiative and context;
• understand and explore benefits management;
• gain confidence in using a number of benefits management tools;
• build a network and connect with like-minded individuals;
• push boundaries, build ideas and innovate.
Benefits are the purpose behind change initiatives or projects, however an alarmingly high number of projects fail to meet the intended results, often missing opportunities to create real organisation value.
People are at the core of most projects and change initiatives, and they create a great deal of complexity. This inherent complexity within organisational cultures often guide us to make decisions that can damage the achievement of benefits often without realising. Despite best intentions we often lose our focus on benefits once projects start, with the focus shifting to the delivery of milestones instead. This can lead to declaring victory too soon and reduces focus on ensuring benefit realisation and the required organisation results.
Yet we can greatly increase the likelihood of delivering benefits through engaging a broad range of stakeholders to define success early on, maintaining this focus throughout and shaping a benefits orientated culture.
In this session we outline a common benefits management process and a range of tools that can be used to support this. We will explore and share experiences, gaining a collective and individual practical understanding of benefits management tools so that you have the confidence to use them as soon as you leave the session.
What previous participants said about Benefit Mapping…
"These tools are excellent, I can finally see how my project deliverables connect to the Strategic Objectives… "
"... I’m going to map the whole Programme out in this way… "
"I love how logical the approach is and much how it has changed my thinking… "
The Session:
Open space – We move away from a traditional top down lecture session to a more informal exchange of information and ideas to create an energising and freewheeling exchange.
Driven by participants – We know that the sum of the expertise of the people in the room will be great. The session is designed to draw on this collective expertise.
Responsive, engaging and interactive – Effective learning comes from doing and collaborating with people in a safe environment. Our approach is to use a framework that helps participants to explore tools in a collaborative and respectful manner.
