About the Workshop

This session is ideal for people who already have some knowledge and expertise in change, who have a change toolkit and want to add to it, and:

• understand how to identify and map benefits;

• increase confidence in using their change tools;

• build a network and connect with like-minded individuals;

• push boundaries, build ideas and innovate.

The vast majority of Organisational change is delivered through Projects and Programmes of various forms; the success of which can only truly be determined through the delivery of the envisaged outcomes. However, we’ve all known ‘successful’ projects that have failed to realise business benefit. Where outputs have been delivered on time, to quality and to cost; Where milestones have been met and tasks completed. Often this focus on delivery has come at the cost of realising benefits, and once the project has been delivered ongoing benefit realisation is not a priority.

The good news is that we can greatly increase the likelihood of delivering successful outcomes of change dedicating appropriate time early on to identify and map out benefits. This process ensures that clear objectives are shaped, that stakeholders are engaged and that their wants and needs are understood. Defining success early on supports the avoidance of a number of well-rehearsed mistakes and common causes failures and delays.

In this session we initially focus on what we mean by a ‘Benefit’ and success can be defined through mapping Benefits. We will explore and share experiences, gaining a collective and individual practical understanding of how this tool works so that you have the confidence to use it as soon as you leave the session.

What previous participants said about Benefit Mapping…

"This tool is excellent, I can finally see how my project deliverables connect to the Strategic Objectives… "

"... I’m going to map the whole Programme out in this way… "

"I love how logical the approach is and much how it has changed my thinking… "

The Session:

Open space – We move away from a traditional top down lecture session to a more informal exchange of information and ideas to create an energising and freewheeling exchange

Driven by participants – We know that the sum of the expertise of the people in the room will be greater than the sum of the experience of those at the front. The session therefore redefines who is an expert, and empowers people to share their expertise

Responsive, engaging and interactive – Effective learning comes from doing and collaborating with people in a safe environment. Our approach is to use a framework that helps participants to explore tools in a collaborative and respectful manner.
